Small band of Chumash sighted

A small band of Chumash was sighted late Fridayevening headed for the Newport Dunes. Scouts of the 2nd Calvary reported the sighting upon return to Fort Sequoia early Saturday Morrning. No Chumash were reported near the Y in the MCA river Saturday for beautification day. The Chumash are a fearsome tribe of fun loving friends, who scouts report, will gather again soon, to plan Yucaipa Campout duties and to make tribal property face masks in Chumash colors and feathers at the teepee of the the Chief Sunday afternoon, September 30 from 2:30 to 5 PM.

DON'T FORGET TO ACCEPT YOUR INVITATION TO THE CHUMASHWEBSITE!!!

Purpopse of the meeting:

1)Get the girls together

2)Meet new tribal members

3)Organize Yucaipa plans for October 12-14

4)Choose hunter/gatherers for food acquisition

5)Give new members instructions on getting vests and patches

6)Practice AIMS, GOALS, CHUMASH CHANT, etc.

7)Pass the talking stick.

8)Have girls create tribal property. I am obtaining face-mask blanks. Each girl will make their own CHUMASH MASK for tribal display at the campout. Masks, feathers, paints, beads provided for a three dollar donation at the door.

9)Finalize tribal responsibilities. Dan is Medicine Man (aka Medicine Man Dan). Rich has stepped up to the plate again as Tribal Scout - already securing our winter campground. (We need to settle up with Rich - he's already ponied up a deposit to secure ourreservations). We also need to select someone to oversee tribal wampum duties so I don't have to. And we still need a sandpainter.Any questions, give the Chief a call!

10) Pass out tribal roster and contact information.
